Trend Report - Gothic Victoriana

The runways were awash this autumn/winter 2015 with Gothic romance from the brooding, 19th century vamp of Sarah Burton's Alexander McQueen to Riccardo Tisci's 'Victorian Chola' girl of Givenchy to Giles' black-lipped goth-gone-glam. The key to this trend is dark, brooding glamour; think decadent, Victorian fabrics of lace and velvet, stiff high collars, length and volume. Givenchy reigned supreme when it came to setting the mood and septum piercings, facial lace and Lisa Stansfield-esque sideburns were the look-du-jour on his runway models including one of our favourites, the fierce Joan Smalls.   Our first pick to channel this trend is this Ted Baker dress, Topshop leather jacket and MCM backpack. More is more with the Victoriana trend so we've teamed it with a Simone Rocha grunge-tastic clear collar and several of our Crow Street vintage necklaces. Worn with these masculine brothel-creepers, this goth is ready to kick some serious ass! Channelling Morticia Adams, at the other scale of the spectrum is the body-conscious maxi dress. In direct contrast to the voluminous prom-inspired look, this is sleek, sophisticated and ever-so-sassy. This is subtle drama that makes a major statement with references to the high collars of the prim-and-proper Victorians. AUTUMN WINTER 2015 TREND FOCUS - GOTHIC VICTORIANA Over at Giles, models showed some serious chutzpah with matte black lips, starched white ruffled collars and velvet capes. The drama was almost costume worthy and Giles chose Andreja Pejic, the world's first transgender model to walk for both the male and female runway in the same season as the front-runner of the collection. The new feminine is strong, brooding and a little bit serious. We like it! We paired this vintage Gianfranco Ferre dress with the classic Chanel lambskin leather for a classic touch to a serious modern look.
